Investments
Ensuring a secure financial future for yourself and your family is not something that can be left to chance so planning is essential, as are regular reviews. Please remember that inflation will erode the spending power of your money so keeping large amounts in deposit accounts may not be the best long-term answer.
While the internet can be amazing source of information, we believe that only a personal service can best ensure you receive the right advice. With this in mind, our site will not allow the purchase of any particular product nor will it recommend the suitability of any products.
The advice of any product will need to take a bewildering multitude of factors into consideration. This may mean any product that on the surface is best, may in fact be unsuitable. For example the need to utilize ‘Trust’ schemes attached to investments or protection for family planning and Inheritance Tax is not clear without fact-finding the situation first.
The FSA does not regulate some forms of Inheritance Tax Planning.
Investment Risk
There are a number of investment vehicles to suit all investors, from the most cautious to the most adventurous. Which ever investment is used and fund choice made, it is imperative to manage your expectations and attitude to investment risk.
There is a balance between risk and potential return –generally the larger the risk to your capital the larger the potential gain.
Risk is also related to how long the investment is held – most commentators advise equity based investments are held for a minimum of five years.
Risk can also be in terms of how you invest. Investors wishing to minimise risk would consider a broader investment spread as opposed to investment in a specialist area.
Please remember that past performance is not a guide to future returns. The value of investments can go down as well as up. Exchange rate fluctuations may cause the value of underlying overseas investments to change. The level of tax benefits and liabilities will depend on individual circumstances and could change in the future.
You need to be clear about the degree of risk you are willing to accept before undertaking any kind of investment. A discussion about your expectations and time-frame is the key to understanding your attitude to risk.
